For the last couple years, Rose and I have been trying to find a way to take an extended trip, get away from our day-to-day in Canada, and explore new cultures in lands afar. Our initial planning involved spending a year working and traveling in Australia. After a year of talking about how we could make it work, we ended up pulling the plug on it, as things with my work were on shaky ground, and I felt that it was the wrong time to leave if I wanted to work in the same field when we returned to Canada. Our decision meant that Rose would spend her first winter away from the West Coast of Canada, in the icy grips of a prairie winter, in Calgary. Eight long winter months leaves you lots of time to stew on your life choices, which turned out to be exactly what we needed, because by March 2018 we new that if we wanted to drop everything and explore our incredible world, we had to make it happen, regardless of the potential repercussions.
Without further ado, I would like to formally welcome you to our Rad Adventure! What does it take to leave everything you know, for six months? It turns out, it doesn’t take much. We left our jobs, packed up all of our possessions and put them in storage, and did about 20 hours of planning before we jumped on a plane to Guatemala. Our Rad Adventure begins in Guatemala, and will take us through Central America, Mexico, and South America. Buckle up for this 6 month journey with us, as we share our experience travelling through some amazing countries, meeting amazing people, and eating amazing food.
